Evie Is 3 Months Old

Oh my word!  Time continues to fly by.  Our little Evie is a whopping 3 months old!  To no surprise, we have been enjoying her to pieces.

Her newborn phase has really started to escape and is being replaced with personality, giggles, LOTS of smiles, and plenty of coo's.

I was forewarned that these babies grow fast and the piece of advice that I got over and over and over again was to cherish every moment because they pass so quickly and you can never get them back.  I listened, and while I COMPLETELY agree that the time goes by quickly, I haven't had any regrets yet.  Sometimes I see others with their newborn babies and I miss my little Evie at that sweet stage, but then I look at her at this stage and I'm SO happy to have her right here and right now.  I suppose that's because when she was in her tiny newborn stage I rarely put her down, I took every opportunity to snuggle her, to wake with her in the middle of the night, etc.  I've realized that each stage has something to love (although it means leaving something else you love behind).

I'm doing the same thing now at this stage.  I'm still trying to eat up every opportunity and moment that I can.  I love stealing the giggles when I know they are right on the cusp of coming out, I love getting as many smiles out of her that I can, I love calming her down when she's upset, I love feeding her, I still love snuggling with her, I love getting her out of bed in the morning and I love putting her to bed at night.  There are days that I just don't leave the house because I want to just sit and play/snuggle/laugh with my little baby girl.  The list can go on and on, but needless to say, I'm still soaking in as much as I can.

Here's her 3-Month Report on what she's doing now.

  • Well, she still smiles A LOT!
  • She sleeps anywhere from 10-12 hours at once.  I feel horrible when I tell other parents with babies how well she is sleeping because I know this sleep pattern is so darn lucky and not the norm.  But, as horrible as I feel, I am COMPLETELY grateful!  No doubt this contributes to Evie's happy demeanor.
  • She's consistently eating 4 full ounces at most feedings now.  She'll actually down about 5 ounces when she wakes up and the rest of her feedings are about 4 ounces (give or take an ounce at some feedings).
  • Her tear duct is still blocked in her right eye.  Dr. Mumford said this is quite normal in babies and usually clears up in 9 months.  9 MONTHS!?!?  Poor girl!  I sure hope it opens up before then.  This girl is tired of constantly having her eye wiped clean.
  • She still loves music, loves her bath, loves to be outside, loves to get her diaper changed, and she still kicks like crazy.  People are putting bets on whether she'll be a swimmer or a soccer player.
  • Her coo's are getting to include more sounds (usually vowel-based) and she'll sit and "talk" for longer stretches.  You can tell she loves the idea of being able to create these sounds on her own.
  • She seems to pay closer attention to things around her now.  She loves to just sit and watch me do anything.  She mostly loves to just sit and watch/listen to me talk to others.
  • She just graduated to her crib.  She's outgrown the bassinet.  So far she's sleeping good in her own room/crib.  It was hard on me and Beau for the first few nights, but I'm sure we'll adjust.
  • She follows objects beautifully and is starting to grab for them now.  She's been trying to reach for her toes, but hasn't quite caught them yet.
  • Her favorite toy is Sophie la Giraffe.
  • She just found her giggle.  Oh my word!  It's the cutest thing in world.  She'll spontaneously giggle and then she'll wonder how she did it and try to repeat it.  She hasn't quite figured out how that giggle actually works, but when it does . . . we ALL love it.  I love trying to pull the giggles out of her!
  • She is beautiful!  I cannot take this girl out in public without complete strangers telling me how gorgeous she is.  The awesome part is that her personality and temperament match her beauty as well.  I love the following picture because I think it really captures her beauty.  We love this baby girl SOOOOO much!
